Design X Social ’22
Sunny Days
Project Summary
Problem Identified
Heat waves are occurring with increasing severity and frequency on an annual basis. More than 80 percent of the estimated 12,000 people in the United States who die of heat-related causes annually are over the age of 60. These hospitalizations and deaths are preventable, but no system is in place to ensure vulnerable seniors are prepared.
Design Innovation
Sunny Days provides volunteer-led social and practical in-home support for hot-weather preparedness. It utilizes non-digital outreach to maximize accessibility for senior citizens. This solution is low-cost, preventative, and easily integrated into existing government programs.
