Project Summary

Problem Identified

Urban pluvial (surface water) flooding i.e. flooding in urban areas caused by intense and/or prolonged rainfall which overwhelms the capacity of the drainage system. There has been an increasing trend of urban flood disasters in India over the past several years whereby major cities in India have been severely affected. Thus, our goal was to design a solution which can help the victims of the urban flood in areas of- awareness and preparedness, effective management (communication, commute aspects) and also in mitigating post crisis problems.

Design Innovation

For this project, our process consisted mainly of 4 steps- Discover, Define, Ideate, Prototype and its various sub-stages. This allowed us to really understand the problem, the users etc. from different perspectives.

Impact On The Society

Our Solution consists of both an application as well as a tangible product so that it can be used even in crisis situations. We have kept the products easy to use and intuitive, so during high panic moments they can operated easily and smoothly. We have also used GPS technology to overcome the communication gap during such disasters. We have tried to orient our solution to the Indian cities’ scenario.
